Online Casino to Air UK TV Ad.

The online casino and gambling giant, Ladbrokes, will be the first company to take advantage of the relaxed laws regarding the advertisement of gambling companies in the UK. Ladbrokes plc. operates online casino, betting and online poker sites, will air its first TV ad during the half time break of the Manchester United versus Roma Champions League match.

The Gambling Act of 2005 which became effective on September 1, online casinos and gambling companies may now advertise in the UK, if they can satisfy a number of strict criteria such as the location where their license is held, the protection of children and social responsibility.

In addition to all that the advertisements will also have to comply with certain rules. Examples of this are, they can not use sexual innuendos, like models in bikinis. And players will receive money when they deposit money at an online gambling site, also the fact that players can gamble and win money.

The advert will focus on the betting side of their online gambling business, featuring veteran television presenter and former soccer professional Jimmy Hill and ex-soccer stars Alistair ‘Ally’ McCoist (Glasgow Rangers), Ian Wright (Arsenal) and Lee Dixon (Arsenal).

The new advertising campaign will be targeted at casual gamblers between the ages of 18 to 34, as this is the market that occasionally bets on the outcome of soccer matches. It would seem, then, that Ladbrokes is spending its money here rather than on its more traditional punters who bet on horses and visit betting shops. The £5 million campaign, running with the tag line “Everyone’s got an opinion, what’s yours worth?”

Betfair also debuted their TV advertising campaign late on Tuesday night, in a more low key affair during the Champion’s League football highlights. Other companies such as William Hill are expected to follow with their own adverts soon.
